About

Seasoned trombonist and composer/arranger Jason Forsythe presents his debut release as a composer with It’s About Time, a nine-track collection that showcases decades of musical writing experience alongside an impressive heavyweight sextet. Co-produced by multi-Grammy winner Brian Lynch, the album features an exceptional lineup of jazz luminaries, including Lynch on trumpet and flugelhorn, tenor saxophonist Walt Weiskopf, trombonist Steve Davis, pianist Michael Weiss, bassist Ugonna Okegwo, and drummer Andy Watson. Drawing on his extensive performing experience with legends such as Slide Hampton, Charli Persip, and Jaki Byard, as well as years spent in New York’s Latin dance bands, Forsythe has crafted compositions that are both accessible and harmonically sophisticated. The collection features a variety of musical styles, ranging from modal explorations to Latin-influenced compositions, all rooted in Forsythe’s belief that jazz should be characterized by rhythm, swing, and a sense of musical joy. Each track serves as a canvas for the stellar musicians to showcase their individual brilliance while responding to one another in real-time musical conversation.
